Ladies Only! Bikepacking Golden Saddle Sunday Social Tonight

Hey ladies of Los Angeles!

“Join us for Bikepacking: Camp with your Bicycle. It’s our third installment of Sunday Social, a series of women’s events at Golden Saddle Cyclery. Come hang out, have a drink, and meet some other ladies who ride. This time around, Jocelyn Gaudi of Komorebi Cycling Team from Portland, Oregon will walk us through bikepacking basics and share her experiences as a mountain bike skills teacher and bikepacking ride leader. There will be a short talk and plenty of time to socialize with friends, check out some gear, and ask questions. You’ll learn about bag and rack options for carrying stuff on your bike, what to bring, plus tips and tricks for packing light and staying safe. Beginners welcome! Women only please. Bring your own cup for beverages. See you at the shop!”

Liz Modeling the Machines for Freedom Thrive Jersey

The Thrive print is inspired by the flora of the springtime and is metaphorically used to express our motivation to ride. Liz is one tough woman, taking on various rides like the White Rim trail and shredding Los Angeles’ trails on her mountain bike. She recently modeled the MFF Thrive Jersey and I think these are some of the best studio shots of a kit I’ve seen in some time. Check out more at Machines for Freedom.

Sammi and Ash for Anna Meares x Santini Collection

Photos by Andrea Schilirò

Track Crit athletes and friends of mine from Austin, Texas, Ash Duban and Sammi Runnels modeled the Anna Meares x Santini Collection while in Italy. Yes, that Anna Meares. The eleven-time UCI Track World Champion / two time Olympic medalist from Team Australia. While I can’t find a link to the actual collection, there is a lifestyle photoshoot on the site. These two ladies absolutely crush it on the bike and turns out, fit female cyclists make for great and real models. Check out the full photo shoot at Santini.

Tillie the Terrible Swede

After working as a seamstress in Chicago, Swedish-born Tillie Anderson received quite the unfortunate nickname after she began sweeping the banks at the local velodrome. In fact, she won 123 of 130 the races she entered, many of which being the now famous Six-Day format. Check out the full story on Anderson’s life in this episode of the Bicycle Story.

7 Mesh’s New Women’s Line

Canadian apparel company 7 Mesh has slowly been expanding their lineup since launching with their jackets a year ago. While the men’s line has a solid foundation, female customers will be interested in their women’s line. This includes the WK1 short and Britannia jerseys, two items I can see doing quite well for the brand. The women’s line also includes multiple jackets and longsleeve jerseys.

All of which are in stock now at 7 Mesh.

“The maximum is not the optimum.” My buddy Chip likes to quote this Fabien Barel interview where the French downhill world champ waxes poetic about racing and life. Of course it’s all over my head, I mean this guy is a world champion, but it got me thinking and wanting to explore how optimum applies to bike touring.

Mal and I have been drooling at the thought of a New Zealand trip for years. With winter approaching and knowing that we weren’t getting any younger (we totally are though), we started saving our vacation days and our pennies to make it happen.

“I’d already set the goal in my head that I was going to be the first girl on MASH. I don’t know how it’s going to happen, but it’s going to happen.” – Chelsea Weidinger

It’s January and everyone is thinking of resolutions and goals for the coming year. As cross season ended, I spent a day in San Francisco riding and talking with Chelsea Weidinger, of the MASH Cyclocross team, about how she got here and where she’s going. Chelsea hails from Columbus, Ohio. After stints working in a bank and a juice bar, she decided that coffee and bike racing were more her speed, and moved to San Francisco in 2012.
