Bloody Disc Brakes!

In a freak accident, total bad ass of a cyclocross star Katie Compton was mangled at the start of Saturday’s race – the Ijsboerke Ladies Trophy – in Lille, Belgium by a fellow racer’s disc brake rotor during a crash. This kind of event is exactly what the UCI will use to solidify their disc brake safety laws. You can see the graphic photo at Mr. Katie Compton’s Twitter. On a more positive note, it appears the laceration was clean enough to make dressing the wound easy. Personally, I think it’s one hell of a story and accompanying battle wound.

Congrats on your killer season, Katie. Heal up quick!!

To all the women who have wanted to take on a big, bad-ass bikepacking route in Alaska, read up!

“The “Lael Rides Alaska” Women’s Scholarship is available to one female rider who will design and ride a 1,000 mile route in Alaska during the summer of 2018. Based off of Lael Wilcox’s 2017 summer project to ride all of the major roads in Alaska, this scholarship is intended to enable another woman to engage in her own bicycle adventure in Alaska.”

Sending it Safely in Cuyuna with Brenda

Edit note: It came to my attention quickly that the original wording of this article, in my attempt to be playful and transparent with the fact that this was a weekend with my partner whom I adore, I undermined the hard work that Brenda and other Minneapolis WTFs have put in for their community. I asked John to take down the article in that form. Brenda has rewritten the article to better respect their community and women in cycling at large. – Spencer

Cuyuna is everything I love about the Midwest packed into 300 acres. What we lack in elevation we make up for with flowy singletrack through aspens, pines, and descents towards crystal clear lakes. The trails are so immaculately maintained you would have never guessed this place was used for anything else except mountain biking.

Floatin, Seeing, Shooting at the Derby City Cup

Editor’s Note: We’ll keep this intro brief because brevity is Jeff’s thing. The way I look at it, when it comes to documenting ‘cross, your photos should do the talking…

Cannondale approached me last year, wanted me on their ticket, wanted a fresh new look to their shots. So we connected, I’m doing my thang for them for 13 races, this past weekend was a target since it was Pan Am Champs, so I came over the pond and got the shots. It’s a Loose program, I do my thing, no restrictions, as it should be.

I float, I see, I shoot.
