The Radavist

This is the fourth layout of the Radavist 2019 Calendar, entitled “Sleeping Rainbow” shot with a Canon 1DX and a 70-200mm lens in Fruita, Utah.

“The Waterpocket Fold is the defining geological feature in Capitol Reef National Park. This 100-mile long buckle in the earth’s crust runs from the north, around Hanksville, all the way South, to Bullfrog on Lake Powell. Along this Fold, rocks have been pushed upward and erosion has cut through the layers, creating deep narrow canyons and dynamic vistas. Capitol Reef got its name due to the unique formations resembling Neoclassical architecture found within the United States’ capitol buildings. Kinda shitty huh? Especially compared to the indigenous tribes’ name for the Reef, Sleeping Rainbow. Last week, we embarked on a ride through this incredible zone with Machines for Freedom. This weekend, we’re going to be taking on a ride I’ve wanted to document for some time with a badass group of ladies for Machines for Freedom. Never one to deny myself a good chuckle on Instagram, I’ve recently found the account of @Gravel_Tryhard where the self-proclaimed “Lady Bicycle Prankster” mocks classic examples of women, mostly models, used to market bicycles. As you can imagine, her material is endless and so far, it’s ceased to amaze me at how far she’ll go to get a good laugh. See for yourself on Instagram.

The WTF Bikexplorers have pulled together SJ Brooks Bikexplorers Scholarships for this year’s Summit. Here are the details:

We would like to recognize the WTF community & our allies who donated to the SJ Brooks Bikexplorers Scholarship last year. Thanks to these generous donations we are able to fund five individual scholarships to attend the 2019 WTF Bikexplorers Summit.

We recognize that living the bike life isn’t as free and easy as the internet makes it seem. In an effort to make the Summit as diverse as the world we live we’re offering scholarships for FIVE folks who identify as women, trans, femme, and/or non-binary to attend this year’s summit.

Rapha has been making apparel for over a decade and recently, they gave their women’s bib shorts a revamp, creating new models, including cargo bibs and a detachable model, making nature breaks all the easier. Favorite bike-related memory.
I don’t have one specific bike memory, but I think my favourite thing on a bike ever is when you ride in Autumn and it’s flannel weather and the sun does that thing where it shines through the tree branches all dappled and you get to ride over a thick carpet of fallen leaves. You can hear the quiet crunching of the different coloured leaves and it’s cool enough outside where you don’t get sweaty. It feels like you’re riding in a time machine that got stuck on pause, or like you’re the last person on earth and you’ll never have to hurry anywhere ever again.

Pepper works with getting kids into bikepacking, has a warm and positive attitude and makes even the most miserable, or Type 02 fun trips look fun. Head on over to Surly to read more!
