The Radavist’s Top Beautiful Bicycles of 2014
The stick that held up the bikes in this Gallery…
I shot a lot of bikes this year. In fact, I shot more Galleries this year, than any other two years combined. From April 1st’s launch of the Radavist, until last week, the entire team worked hard on bringing a full photo gallery just about every weekday, sometimes twice. Pulling in those metrics took some time, but rather than limiting this year’s selection to just ten, I found the following bikes to be all within the same realm.
Some of these bikes never dropped a chain in terms of year-long momentum, still churning in pageviews and social media chatter to this very day. Surprisingly to me, a few were completely stock bikes. These were all chosen for their Facebook likes, social media engagement, comments and overall traffic. I feel like there were a lot of bikes that were flops as far as traffic was concerned, but I wanted to be fair in selecting the list.
Before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s back up a bit.
We began the year with a few big stories, all leading up to one of the busiest weekends of the year, NAHBS. After record-breaking traffic, the world of Beautiful Bicycles culminated in the 2014 NAHBS Drive Side Gallery. From there, it was onto traveling for stories and documenting Beautiful Bicycles along the way… We’ll start off in Prescott, Arizona for the Whiskey Off Road.

Stanridge Speed’s New Highstreet EVO Model
Inspired by the classic aero, low-pro frames of the 70’s and 80’s, the newest from Stanridge Speed cycles embodies experimental design with modern tubing and profiles. As a nod to the Cinelli Laser and other frames of that era, the Highstreet EVO track will be a new addition to the Stanridge line for 2015.
Stanridge will be making twelve EVOs in a small production run and while they will lack the triple triangles, they will include the head tube gusset and wild paintjob, all made using the same fabrication processes used by Columbus and Cinelli during the Laser era. Those interested in purchasing one of these unique frames may contact Stanridge Speed directly.

Save the NSC Velodrome!
Track racing is one of the most unique forms of cycling because it requires a special venue and when said venue is threatened, the sport itself takes the hit. The NSC Velodrome is the only velodrome in Minneapolis and right now, it needs our help.
If you’re in the area, there’s a fundraiser this weekend but you don’t have to live in Minneapolis to help support track cycling. Donate at the NSC Velodrome’s Go Fund Me page and help re-pave this beautiful track. If you’d like to some some truly wonderful photos of this velodrome, check out Kyle’s photos at Tracko.

A Quick Stop at Mash SF’s New Storefront
When Mash first opened their storefront a few years back, it quickly became a clubhouse of sorts for the local riders. Group rides would meet up once or twice a week to explore the roads and trails of San Francisco. As quickly as the storefront became popular, the brand itself grew and the need for more space became apparent, sending Mike Martin on a hunt for a bigger store, with space for a design office.
Yesterday I swung through their new storefront and design offices in SF and hung out for a bit, soaking in all the random artifacts both from SF’s street racing culture and cycling’s most iconic brands… See more in the Gallery!

Chunks’ Nagasawa – Morgan Taylor
Chunks’ Nagasawa
Words and photos by Morgan Taylor
When we think of building a bike, there’s usually an aesthetic ideal and a finished product in mind. While many of the beautiful bicycles we pore over are works of perfection, the range of aesthetic ideals is as varied as the riders who put them together.
I’ve known Chunks since the early days of fixie freestyle. We used to get together on a weekly basis to do backwards circles and bunny hop converted road frames – sound familiar? That weekly gathering gave us the motivation to ride through winters, sharing laughs and forging friendships along the way.
At the time, the NJS track bike was an aesthetic ideal it seemed we all lusted for. The race-bred, yet street-tough style led many down the path of looseball hubs and B123s in less than optimal conditions. Some went even further, to a carefully curated, freshly imported Keirin frameset dripping in Nitto and Dura Ace.

Affinity Cycles is Back with New Branding
Introducing the New Affinity Cycles branding, website and frame colors. Brooklyn’s Affinity Cycles has been gearing up for a bit of a relaunch, in between their riders winning the Red Hook Crit women’s field, various alleycats and even competing in the 6 Days.
To start things off officially, Affinity announces three new frame colors and pre-orders: McQueen Green Kissena, Lollipop Purple Lo Pro and the Asphalt Metropolitan. All the frames now have hand painted graphics and their Kissena is featuring an all new carbon fork with aluminum steerer. Each can be pre-ordered as a frameset, or various build specs, ranging from $1,100 up to $4,400 for ENVE.
Check out Affinity’s new website as well, with a side-scrolling gallery of images, representing the brand’s ideology that a street bike can also be a race bike.
