Cody Brothers Bobcats in Leadville Shirt

Leadville is happening as I’m typing this, with the race finishing in a few hours. Just because you weren’t there (or maybe you are), doesn’t mean you can’t pick up one of these Bobcats in Leadville shirts! Check out more information here and pick one up here. Personally, I think this would make a great bike shop poster too!

Mission Workshop: Indian Summer Riding Kit – Merino Shirts and Stahl Short

Photos by Sean Murphy

As one of the first people to test out the new cycling gear from Mission Workshop, I greeted it with as much apprehension as enthusiasm. Surely, there were already a lot of options for urban cycling gear out there but were these new pieces strictly for cycling?

Not at all. In fact, while I enjoyed riding in the clothes, I didn’t feel like there was anything in particular that made it cycling-specific and that’s a good thing. The side utility pocket has everyday applications and the cut certainly fits on the bike. In the end, this is made in the USA, high-tech, high-quality clothing from a company that is no stranger to those traits.

Fixed Gear London: Fixed Only Death to Roadies Shirt

Fixed Gear London has some new shirts up for pre-order:

“Fixedgearlondon did not originate from a cycling background, most of us are skateboarders through and through. Fixed Only and Death to Roadies is our take on the original DogTown warning slogans  Locals Only and Death to Valleys. We associate with this attitude more than any existing attitude in cycling.”

I grew up at the beach with the best break for miles and skated street, so I know all about this territorial mentality, but I also embrace cycling as a whole. The city streets are far from being the same as a crowded break during the rise of surfing in southern California but you gotta hand it to Andy for putting out the shirt. If anything, it’ll get a chuckle from friends!

Outlier Does Tie-Dye

Outlier Does Tie-Dye

I love the idea of a merino tie-dye tee and if I have faith that anyone can do it, it’s Outlier:

“It’s no secret that we think our pure 17.5 micron merino is a gem on its own and makes for the best damn t-shirt we’ve ever worn. So we took a little trip at the studio and hand tie-dyed a small batch of them using natural indigo to make the best damn tie-dyed shirt we’ve ever worn. Made in the Bay Area with New Zealand Fabric and hand-dyed at the Outlier Studio in Brooklyn. We hand-dyed a small batch of 30, and due to the nature of the process, each piece is unique.

A note about the dyeing process:

We took our Near White Ultrafine Merino T-Shirts, wrapped them up and immersed them in natural indigo dye. When the shirts are removed, the indigo oxidizes creating a permanent bond with the merino fibers. The shirts are then treated with a dye fixative, then washed with a special detergent to remove any extraneous particles and finally hung to dry in a sunny corner of our studio. Since they’re hand dyed, there will be variation in each of the patterns.”
