Matt’s Samson Basket Track

Reportage

Matt’s Samson Basket Track

If you were around in the mid-2000’s, rode a track bike on the streets and still have that frame, chances are, it might look like this. I love seeing friend’s zippy, fast, track-drop equipped bikes get swapped out for a spinny gear, risers and a Wald basket. When Matt wanted something more lively to ride to work each day, he bought his friend’s old Samson track bike and quickly made the transition to basket track.

Matt is co-owner at Flat Track Coffee, my local shop and every day he rides to work in Vans, with his made in the USA, Austin-based, Helm boots in the basket and a few bags of coffee for customers. This bike is always parked inside the shop and finally I got around to photographing it. Personally, I love this bike so much, as I’m sure Matt does.

Brooklyn Machine Works Gangsta Track

Reportage

Brooklyn Machine Works Gangsta Track

The owner of this Gangsta track has been hanging around Shifter Bikes since he was in his early teens. Now, years later and he’s got an itch to ride his bike out from the city on a big, weekend ride. Before he could do so, he needed Dan to add bottle braze ons to the frame.

Now, the technique Dan used didn’t involve a torch, but it did involve a drill and a device called a Nutsert. More on that later. For now, let’s check out this rad Gangsta Track!

Christian’s Toe Breaker FGFS

Reportage

Christian’s Toe Breaker FGFS

I can’t come to LA and not hang out with Christian, the Golden Saddle Cyclery shop hand. He’s one of the best. After his last frame didn’t work out, he commissioned a builder to fabricate a bike that was closer to what he wanted. In short: a custom FGFS rig. He doesn’t have a name for the frame, so I dubbed it the Toe Breaker. Check out a few photos in the Gallery!

Jesse’s Kinfolk Bosco Fixed Cruiser

Reportage

Jesse’s Kinfolk Bosco Fixed Cruiser

While a track bike with drops and a negative stem look great in photos, the reality is, at a certain point in one’s life, you just wanna cruise. If anyone knows about cruising, it’s Rivendell Cycles and that’s where Jesse picked up these Nitto Bosco Bullmoose bars for his Kinfolk track bike. Personally, I love it. I’m sure it’ll rub the purists the wrong way but they’re not the ones riding in style like this!

Eurobike 2013: Cinelli and Columbus

Reportage

Eurobike 2013: Cinelli and Columbus

Let’s face it, the name Cinelli and Columbus is synonymous with Urban Cycling. Personally, I feel like they’ve done a lot to bring alleycats, track bikes and general radness to the industry. Especially with sponsorships and their collaboration with MASH over the years.

At this year’s Eurobike, Cinelli’s booth featured an extensive Columbus display, the Bootleg HOBO with Lucas Brunelle’s video and the newest from MASH. I even ran into Red Hook Crit Barcelona champion Fish while I was shooting photos. Check out more in the Gallery!
