The Prolly Viking DZR First Sample

Radar

The Prolly Viking DZR First Sample

When I first introduced the Prolly Viking DZR sneakers, they got mixed reactions. Some people were stoked, others were not. But that’s the name of the game. Taking into consideration some of the critiques, we went forward with the first run of samples. A few weeks ago, I received the first sample shoe and I gotta say, it’s pretty rad. We chose a ballistic nylon outer and kept it minimal and black. The reason I’m using the black and white shots is because some of the colors were off in the sample and I don’t want people to get too hung up on them.

So far, the key features are a screen-printed reflective “P” on the back, SPD compatibility, a deeper heel cup with added padding, a printed insole and a gum sole. We’re going to raise the heel a little bit more for the next sample and add some more padding around the perimeter of the shoe opening. For a first attempt, I’m stoked! The material is killer and once we nail down the branding, I’ll be approving these to be produced for a sooner-than-I-expected release date.

Keep tuned in for more details as events warrant.

Oh and on a related note, make sure you check out the newest DZR Facebook contest!

Fyxation: Bikes are Better

We are excited to announce the Fyxation Bikes Are Better initiative. Bikes Are Better started off as a simple idea we had to give back to the cycling community. What started off as something small has turned into an entire line of soft goods that includes a Fyxation T-shirt, custom Rickshaw Bagworks Messenger Bag and custom Hold Fast strap. All of these items are being sold under the Bikes Are Better brand and 25% of the profits will be used to support local and national bicycle non-profits. We will donate the proceeds to a new non-profit each month. From now until June 30th, the Alliance for Biking and Walking will be the recipient of these funds.

From today until May 13th anyone that purchases one of our Bikes Are Better shirts will be entered into a drawing to win a prize pack consisting of all of the items below. We will select two lucky winners and announce them next Friday.

– One set of Fyxation Session 700 tires – your choice of size/color
– One custom Bikes Are Better Rickshaw Zero Messenger bag made for us by Rickshaw Bagworks
– One set of custom Bikes Are Better Hold Fast FRS courtesy of Hold Fast
– A cool prize pack of Eighth Inch gear courtesy of our friends at Eighth Inch
Bikes are Better T-Shirts, Messenger Bags and Foot Straps can be purchased here in our web shop.

Thank you for helping us support bicycle advocacy. We are pleased to be able to offer you our Bikes Are Better collection – great gear for a great cause.

*today Fyxation is running a special code in their store: use “prolly” at checkout for 15% off of everything (except the new shirts).

Rapha: The Festive 500

Riding hard at Christmas is not a paradox. As you stuff your belly with food and soak yourself with booze, the roads may seem empty. But they aren’t. This year, riders across the globe will be squeezing themselves like oversized elves into tights and overshoes and heading out to go the distance, leaving the turbo trainer in the garage.

Why not ride everyday of the Christmas week and move into the New Year fit and refueled? As Rapha’s superhuman Graeme Raeburn demonstrated last year, clocking miles over the festive break is possible. He rode over 1000km in a week. See » 1000 Xmas Km. We’re throwing down the gauntlet and challenging you to ride 500km between the 23rd and the 30th December 2010. Rather than let the holidays get the better of you we want to see riders worldwide taking up the challenge and joining us to ride 500km in a week.

We want you to submit any kind of hard visual evidence, whether it be photographic, Garmin data uploads, illustrations or divorce papers. The most visually engaging or inspirational submission will win our Deep Winter Training Bundle, featuring the new Deep Winter Tights, Winter Jersey and Rapha Overshoes. The first 100 to prove (somehow) they have completed the 500km will receive a limited edition 500km woven badge featured above.

Also, Hope have kindly donated a Vision Two light as an additional prize.

• To submit your entry post a link in the comments box below to where on the internet you will be documenting the evidence. This could be on your blog, Flickr, Vimeo, YouTube, Map My Ride, Garmin Connect, a series of tweets on Twitter, or your Facebook page.
• Alternatively upload images, video and words to our Facebook wall or Twitter:

Hey, what can I say, this took a long, long time to judge. Remember the DZR Contest I held a little while back? Well, I got over 100 emails and over 60 comments, all of which were great vignettes into people’s local bike shops. While judging a contest is never easy, I sure had fun doing it!

We already saw one of Mikey Walley’s photos and here’s another. Dude got himself and his LBS a pair of DZR Strauss shoes. Check out some more winners below.
